Georgian 15k Lapis Intaglio Signet Ring

SKU: 46698

$2,295
A signet ring can be represented by a smooth or engraved seal, or with an intaglio, which is created by carving into the surface of a stone. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A magnificent intaglio signet ring from the Georgian (ca1750) era! Made of 15kt yellow gold, this extraordinary ring holds a rectangular lapis lazuli intaglio in a bezel setting at the center. The carved image is very intricate and appears to show a family crest or personal seal. The seal depicts a crossed branch and cross above a banner with illegible writing along the bottom. The intaglio has a rich, deep blue color and wonderful matte finish with flecks of pyrite, which are indicative of lapis. Framing the intaglio is a raised gold mounting, which is smooth on all sides and extends to a simple gold band. The pairing of the yellow gold setting with the dark blue intaglio is quite marvelous! When worn, the face of the ring rests prominently above the finger, giving the design an important and stately appearance. This outstanding signet ring could be worn by a woman or man and would make an impressive addition to any collection!

Measurements: The ring has a large finger size of 6, but could be resized up or down if desired. The intaglio center measures approximately 5/8" tall, 1/2" wide, and sits 1/8" high above the finger.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting or to the intaglio stone, which is secure and intact.
