A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A fantastic horseshoe fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era on a great antique watch chain! This wonderful piece is made of 14k yellow gold and features a 3-dimensional horseshoe design. Each side of the horseshoe is decorated with six silver nail studs as well as engraved detail. The fob, which is fairly large in size, is open in the center and on the sides, and has a graduated arc shape inside of the horseshoe opening. The arms of the arch and the ends of the horseshoe come together at the base of the fob, which is a lovely diamond-shaped bloodstone seal.

The fob is accompanied by a special Victorian-era 14k yellow gold mariner link watch chain. Each petite mariner link has a knurled texture, making this combination stunningly unique. The watch chain is complete with a double-sided dog clip, perfect for adding additional charms or pendants. A special pairing, this fob and watch chain would make a fabulous addition to any Victorian-era aficionado's collection!

Measurements: The fob hangs a little less than 1 3/8" long, is 7/8" at its widest point. The bloodstone seal measures approximately 3/8" on each side and 1/2" from tip to tip. The chain measures 18" long and 3mm wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the fob and chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting, the silver studs, or the bloodstone seal.
