Most emeralds, antique and modern, are treated with oil or resin to improve clarity, which is a long-accepted practice. We disclose any known treatment on each piece in line with FTC guidelines, so you understand exactly what you are buying.

Natural emeralds form in the earth and usually contain inclusions, while synthetics are grown in a lab and look cleaner and more uniform. Antique pieces predate most synthetics, and we represent every stone accurately as natural or otherwise.

Emerald is softer and more included than sapphire or ruby, so clean it gently with warm water and mild soap and avoid ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals. Store it separately to prevent scratches. We advise on care for every emerald piece we sell.
