The terms overlap. Brooch usually describes a larger decorative piece with a hinged pin and catch on the back, while pin can mean the same thing or a slimmer stick pin. In practice we use both, and each listing describes the style and fitting clearly.

We test the hinge, pin stem, and catch on every brooch, checking that the catch closes fully and holds. Early C-clasps sit open and rely on the pin length, while later pieces use a safety catch. We note the clasp type and condition in each description.

Many can. Some brooches include a fitted loop for a chain, and others can have one added without harming the piece. We can advise on the safest way to convert a brooch so you can wear it both ways.
