Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'.

A magnificent Bohemian garnet pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This impressive piece is made of silver gilt, and quite substantial in size. The circular body of the pendant has an open filigree design, which is is leafy in appearance, and encrusted with faceted garnet gemstones. The garnets have a fiery, deep red color that pairs perfectly with the gilt finish! At the top of the piece is a complimentary bail, also topped with Bohemian garnets. A very striking statement piece, it is perfect for any garnet lover, and would look incredible worn on a beautiful chain!

Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 2 1/2" long (including the bail), and measures 2" in diameter.

Condition: The overall condition of this piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gilt setting or to the bohemian garnet stones, all of which are intact. The bail is secure and in good condition. There is a natural patina on the surface of the setting, which is a normal characteristic of antique jewelry.
