A gorgeous diamond encrusted fox stick pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14kt gold and sterling silver, this fabulous piece portrays the head of a fox resting at the top of a long gold safety pin. The fox head is adorned with a combination of Rose Cut and old European Cut diamonds in various sizes that catch the light beautifully with every turn. Two delicate cabochon rubies represent its eyes, providing a wonderful pop of raspberry red color. Lovely engraved details decorate the edges to represent its mouth and fur. Completing the design is a rosy gold Victorian safety pin (also known as a "nappy pin"), providing a wonderful mixed metals design. Perfect for attaching to a favorite garment, this is an exceptional piece that would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The safety pin measures approximately 2 1/4" long (including the fox head resting at the top). The decorative fox head itself measures about 1/2" wide and tall, and is approximately 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the safety pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to gold setting, which is fully functional and fastens securely with a hinged pin clasp. The sterling-topped fox head is securely attached, and all of the diamonds and rubies are intact. A natural patina provides a darkened appearance to the surface of the silver fox, which is a common characteristic of Victorian era jewelry.
