Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non-conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as children's toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bright, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many vintage jewelry lovers worldwide.
An unusual Bakelite bracelet from the Retro (ca1940s) era! This striking piece is comprised of carved Bakelite panels, which have been stacked and hinged to form a unique "gate link" bracelet. The Bakelite features a stylish checkerboard motif, with solid yellow and black colors that are opaque in appearance. At the back of the bracelet is a simple hook clasp disguised within the design, allowing the piece to open easily and close securely. A fun and funky vintage piece, this fashionable bracelet is perfect for the Bakelite collector!
Measurements: When opened and extended, the bracelet measures approximately 8" long, and would fit nicely on a medium to large sized wrist. The surface of the bracelet measures 1" wide and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. There is only minimal and normal surface wear to the Bakelite links, but no significant chips or scratches. The hinged links move freely, and the clasp fastens securely.
