A Tassie is a paste or glass copy of a cameo or intaglio. Scottish gem engraver James Tassie created replicas of ancient agates and gemstones and together with Dr. Quin of Dublin, they came up with an opaque glass that could replicate various colors and patterns. Tassies were created using a molding process rather than carving.
A gorgeous carved tassie pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This fabulous piece depicts a stunning and large carved glass pendant which is oval in shape. The carved image appears to be of a beautiful robed woman who is looking over her shoulder and arms are wrapped around a thin tree trunk or vine. The picture is very detailed and intricate showing lovely texture to her flowing garb and a beautiful, feminine face. The glass tassie is bezel set in a 14kt yellow gold frame and hangs from a simple gold bail. This stunning piece would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 1 5/8" long, is 1 1/8" at its widest point and has a depth of 1/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved tassie or to the gold setting.
