A wonderful insect pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in gilded silver, the brooch depicts a lovely bug created with 3-dimensional details. Two alluring moonstone cabochons represent the bug's body and head, while delicate pink sapphires represent the eyes. The moonstones have a strong pearly flash and are prong set within open back frames. Curled antennae sprout from the top of the head, and 8 bent legs peek out from the underside of the body. On the back is a bar pin and c-catch clasp, perfect for fastening the piece to a favorite garnet. A wonderful example of Victorian gemstone insect jewelry, this unusual brooch would make a special addition to any antique collection!
Measurements: The brooch measures approximately 1 1/2" long, 3/4" wide, and approximately 1/4" thick.
Condition: The pin is in very good antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver gilt setting. The moonstone cabochons and pink sapphire stones are intact and securely set. The larger moonstone has some light surface wear to the underside, which is does not detract from the beauty of the overall piece. The pin clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition.
