Victorian Sterling Silver Repousse Cigar Cutter
Tax excluded. Shipping calculated at checkout
A unusual cigar cutter pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The piece is a functioning cigar cutter, which is crafted in sterling silver. A textured repousse motif decorates both sides of the pendant's body, incorporating swirls of flourished detail. Originally, the cigar cutter would have been worn as a fob hanging from a gentleman's watch chain. It carries the traditional teardrop shape of a cigar cutter, with a hinged mechanism at the side that reveals the blade. An opening at the bottom and side would have been used to clip the tip of a cigar and discard the shavings. A smooth knob at the side is used to pull the blade out from the side of the handle. The piece hangs from a simple sterling ring at the top, and would look wonderful paired with a favorite chain!
Measurements: The cigar cutter hangs 1 1/2" long (including the ring at the top), and measures 5/8" wide and 1/2" thick at the base.
Condition: The overall condition of the cigar cutter is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or repousse detail. The cigar cutter mechanism is intact and in working condition. There is a natural patina on the surface of the setting that gives it a slightly darkened appearance, which is normal for antique jewelry and adds to its unique character.
