A rare and breathtaking festoon-style necklace from the Art Deco (ca1930s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this piece begins with a chain alternating cable and ellipse-shaped links. The chain secures with a simple spring ring clasp marked "STERLING". The chain is interrupted by 5, square-shaped links, which each feature a bezel-set piece of butterfly-wing. Each wing is covered by a glass frame, and displays an incredible iridescent bluish-purple hue. When observed up close, the wings are truly mesmerizing. The butterfly-wing links are separated from one another by circular mother of pearl rings, which also display lovely nacre. One of the butterfly-wing links dangles freely from the base of the chain, adding gorgeous movement to the piece. The backside of that link is marked: "L.M STERLING" and "ENGLAND". A one-of-a-kind find, this necklace would make an exceptional addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements: The necklace has a total length of 15". The lowest butterfly-wing link hangs 7/8" off of the necklace.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting, and the spring ring clasp is secure and in working order. All of the butterfly-wing and mother of pearl links are intact and securely attached to the necklace.
