A wonderful sterling pendant necklace from the Art Nouveau (ca1900s) period! This beautiful piece is crafted of sterling and comprised of a heart-shaped pendant which hangs from a fine silver chain. The medium-sized pendant is double sided and boasts an exceptional repousse design depicting a beautiful young woman surrounded by blooming flowers and flowing vines. Two large flowers are tucked into her long hair, and a gauzy fabric is wrapped around her shoulders. She holds a tambourine in her hands, and gazes dreamily into the distance, a romantic expression on her face. The feminine design covers the surface of both sides of the piece and the pendant hangs from a fluted bail, attached to a fine sterling chain. The bail is stamped "925" and what appears to read "PAD". Although unable to locate an Unger Brother's hallmark, this specific design was a motif known to be crafted by the esteemed silversmiths. It's a lovely necklace and would be right at home in any antique collection!
Measurements: The chain measures 19" in total length. The heart-shaped pendant hangs approximately 1 1/2" long, and is 1 1/8" wide, and 3/8" in depth.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting or to the repousse detail. The chain and clasp are secure and in good working condition. There is a natural patina on the surface of the silver setting, which is normal for an antique piece and adds additional depth to the beautiful 3-dimensional design.
