An impressive vintage Tiffany & Co. onyx and ivory necklace from the 1960s! This striking piece is crafted in 18kt yellow gold, is comprised of a substantially sized pendant which hangs from an ornate yellow gold chain. The large pendant is hand carved from onyx and ivory (now a banned material) and set within a gold rounded corner rectangular setting. With a step-up design, the rich black onyx stone sections alternate with the ivory, and each piece is held within a gold bezel frame. Two double rings are set at the top, allowing the ornate chain to weave through and stay even when worn. The long chain has a fantastic design comprised of two different variations of elongated links that alternate with sections of free-moving multi-ring rope chain. On the back of the pendant is a small plaque marked with the authentic "TIFFANY & CO" signature along with an "18K" gold purity mark. The accompanying chain slips easily over the head, there is also a spring ring clasp stamped with a "750" gold purity mark. It's a magnificent piece by a legendary maker and would make a very fashionable addition to any collection!
Measurements: The entire length of the chain measures approximately 24.5" long. The pendant (including the bails at the top) hangs a little more than 2" long, measures 1 1/2" wide and is 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant and chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carved ivory or onyx. Both bails and the spring ring clasp are secure and in good working condition.
