Early Georgian 15k/Sterling Silver GIA Ceylon Sapphire & Peruzzi Diamond Engagement Ring

A spectacular and unusual sapphire and diamond ring from the Early Georgian (ca1730) era! This incredible 18k and sterling silver piece adorns a mesmerizing 2ctw oval cut Ceylon blue sapphire at the center of an ornate setting. The prong set stone exhibits a stunning perfect royal blue color with no indications of heat treatment, and the open back setting allows light to pass through, showcasing the incredible hue. The sapphire is set within an exceptional wirework mounting encrusted with eight tiny Peruzzi cut diamonds, an amazing early version of brilliant cut diamonds. The stones weigh approximately 0.40ctw combined and are foil backed to increase their sparkle, a standard practice of the time. The filigree design features branching cutouts and delicate metalwork that decorate the shoulders and sides of the ring and finishing the design is a smoothly polished ridged band that graduates slightly towards the back. The ring is accompanied by a GIA Sapphire Origin report, #5231178913, confirming that the center sapphire originated in Sri Lanka and shows no indications of heating. The ring makes an exceptional statement piece when worn, and would be fantastic as a unique gemstone engagement ring or could mark a special occasion! 

Measurements: The ring has an approximate finger size of 6 but could be slightly resized if desired. The ring rests approximately 1/8" above the finger when worn. The graduated band measures 1.5mm wide at the back. 

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting or gold band. The sapphire and all of the diamonds are intact and securely set but the sapphire does have some minor scratches as a result of its age. Due to the hand cut nature of Peruzzi diamonds, the shape of the stones do not have perfect symmetry. This reflects the age and genuine appearance of antique diamonds.
