fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more plaques that can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which face is displayed prominently! The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

An unusual chess piece fob from the Edwardian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 9k yellow gold, the body of this fob is carved to represent the head of a horse or the "knight" chess piece. The base of the fob is decorated with a unique swirling motif cutout design, which adds to the intricacy of the piece. The bottom of the fob holds an oval-shaped carnelian stone, which is held within a prong setting, and displays a lovely, soft orange hue. The top of the fob features a complementary bail, allowing the piece to be attached to a favorite chain or charm bracelet. The neck of the horse is stamped with "9" and "375" purity marks. A unique piece, this fob would make a lovely addition to any Edwardian-era jewelry collection!

Measurements: The fob hangs approximately 1 1/4" long (including the bail). The carnelian stone at the bottom of the fob measures 3/4" long and 1/2" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The carnelian stone is intact, and the complementary bail is secure and in working order.
