French paste is a vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.
A beautiful pair of French paste earrings from the Edwardian (ca1900) era! These lovely earrings are made of both 9k rose gold and sterling silver, and have a simple, feminine design. Each earring features a top sparkling French paste stone that is linked to a wishbone-shaped design of small bezel set paste stones. Attached to the wishbone-link is a larger paste stone held within a sterling silver bezel setting. Each earring is accompanied by a 9k rose gold earring wire. A simply stunning pair of earrings, they would look beautiful worn day or night!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 1 1/4" long (including the wire top), and is approximately 3/8" at its widest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or sterling silver settings, and the French paste stones are intact. The earring wires are secure and in good working condition.
