French paste is a Vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using real gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.
An absolutely gorgeous French paste bracelet from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This stunning piece is crafted in sterling silver and features an exquisite French paste design. The piece is comprised of 6 sterling silver links that hinge together to form a flexible bracelet. The large links are connected to one another by two small sterling silver jump rings. Each link features a central floral motif, which is formed by 7 pink paste stones held within bezel settings. The pink stones are bordered by a dainty black enamel border, which mimics floral petals. The exterior of each link also features 6 rich green paste stones, which are also held within bezel settings. The sterling silver used to create the base of the links is organized in delicate scrolling motifs, which further adds to the unique appeal of the piece. The bracelet opens at a push clasp that is hidden within one of the links. This eye catching bracelet would look fabulous worn day or night and would make a marvelous addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The bracelet measures 7 1/4" long, is 1" wide at its widest point, and slightly more than 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver links and all of the French paste stones are intact. The push clasp is in good working condition.
