A signet ring can be represented with an intaglio, which is created by carving below the surface of a stone or by a simple smooth seal. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.
This beautiful intaglio signet from the Georgian (ca1750s) era is truly one-of-a-kind! Crafted in 14k and sterling silver, this ring feature a carved octagonal-shaped piece of carnelian. The intaglio, which represents a familial crest, includes a winged dragon, crown, and scrolling-motifs. The carnelian is held within a bezel-setting, and displays a deep orange hue. Each shoulder of the ring features a singular, bezel-set rose cut diamond. The rose cut diamonds are wonderfully faceted, and add a lovely shine to the piece. The remainder of the band is smooth and simple. A bold piece, this intaglio signet ring would blend seamlessly into any Georgian-era jewelry collection!
Measurements: The ring is currently a size 5, but could easily be resized. The band has a width of 1.3mm.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling setting. The carnelian and rose cut diamonds are all intact and securely set.
