The Italian word, “giardinetti,” which translates to “garden,” includes the incorporation of flower vases or baskets into jewelry, notably brooches and rings. The colorful items were created using various gemstones including rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. Popular during the Georgian (ca1714-1837) era, these colorful floral gemstone depictions were known as tokens of love to be exchanged with significant others and friends. A resurgence in popularity occurred during the Art Deco (ca1920) era.
A whimsical pair of giardinetti earrings from the Georgian (ca1750s) era! Crafted in 14k rose gold and sterling silver, each earring depicts a flower basket overflowing with swirling foliage! The base of the basket is crafted in rose gold, and features engravings which mimic a woven texture. The leaves of the foliage are encrusted with bead-set rose cut diamonds, which add a lovely sparkle to the earrings! Together, the diamonds have an approximate total carat weight of .85ctw. The earrings are completed by simple earring wires. A darling pair, these earrings would make a spectacular addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements: The earrings have a total length of 2 1/4" (including the earring wires) and measure 5/8" at their widest point.
Condition: The overall conditions of the earrings is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling silver setting, and all of the diamonds are intact and securely set. The earring wires are in working order.
