An exceptional and unusual memorial urn ring from the Georgian (ca1780) era! Crafted in 18k yellow gold, the ring features a large, ellipse-shaped centerpiece. The centerpiece of the ring features a small urn motif, which is decorated with black and white enameling. The urn is also surrounded by a border, which reads: "Josh Hetherington ESQR. OB: 6th Sept. 1792 AET: 39". The urn and border are juxtaposed atop a woven hair background, further adding to the piece's unique charm. The centerpiece is protected by a glass cover, which is held within a gold frame. The band of the ring is smooth and simple. A truly exceptional example of mourning jewelry, this ring would make the perfect addition to any Georgian jewelry collection!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size 6, but could easily be resized. The substantial centerpiece of the ring measures 1 1/4" tall and 7/8" wide. The ring has a depth of a little under 1/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The glass cover which protects the enameling and woven hair is secure and free of cracks or scratches. The enamel work and hair are both in pristine condition.
