A charming fob/charm from the Georgian era (ca1810) with a lovely Urn motif! Crafted in bright 18k gold, the fob is petite and beautifully decorated with white and red glittering enamel. Bezel-set at the base is an oval-shaped clear piece of quartz engraved with the phrase "i ene change quen mourant," which in French translates to "I only change when I die" surrounding a mighty oak leaf, a popular symbol of strength in the Georgian era and beyond. The petite fob hangs from a well made Victorian era 9k rosy yellow gold snake chain fit with an engraved box clasp. The enamel work is accented by linear etching and fine milgrain detail throughout the body of the urn. The bail of the urn is affixed to the lid which moves slightly, allowing for the pendant to swing naturally. A lovely antique piece, it is perfect for a Georgian-obsessed collector!
Measurements: The fob measures 1" tall. The oval stone at the base is 5/8" long and 1/2" wide. The chain measures 18" long.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The enamel shows minor areas of wear and is exceptionally well kept for the piece's age. The quartz fob shows a few minor scratches and a small crack to one side, but this does not effect the integrity of the piece. The stone is secure in its setting.
