Not many people are aware that Newark, New Jersey was a major hub for the manufacture of jewelry from the late 1800s until the 1950s. One of the leading companies, the Riker Brothers, has an early history that dates back to 1846. Their beautiful pieces are quite sought after and still remain highly collectible today.
A lovely lavalier pin/pendant from the Art Nouveau (ca1910s) era by legendary jeweler, Riker Brothers! Crafted in 14k yellow gold, this pin/pendant features a unique swirling shape, common of the Art Nouveau era. The center of the piece features a bezel-set opal cabochon, which displays an array of green, orange, blue, and red flashes. A small bezel-set old European cut diamond. The pin/pendant also incorporates swirl and foliage-motifs, and the back of the piece features both a pin clasp and hidden bail, which would allow the piece to easily attach to a favorite gold chain. The pin clasp is stamped "14K" and with the Riker Brothers signature. A unique piece, this pin/pendant would make a great addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements: The pin/pendant has a width of 1 1/4" and a height of 7/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the pin/pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The opal and diamond are both secure and intact. The pin clasp and hidden bail are both secure and in working order.
