fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A very unique fob from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in 14k yellow gold, this fob resembles a small dome, and is decorated with a carved, ribbed design, and the top features a small flower motif. The base of the piece features a three-dimensional snake, whose body is curving around the fob, and seamlessly blends into the attached complementary bail. The base of the piece is represented by a rectangular agate stone, which displays a lovely milky white hue. The bezel-set agate features a carving, which seems to resemble a shield crest. A unique piece, this fob would make a lovely addition to any antique jewelry collection!

Measurements: The fob hangs 3/4" long (including the bail for hanging), and the base is 5/8" wide and tall.

Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The agate stone is intact and secure, and the complementary bail is in working order.
