A beautiful banded agate locket/pendant from the Victorian (ca1850s) era! Crafted in 14k gold, the oval-shaped piece frames a banded agate stone at the center, which is deep brown with a creamy stripe of white. Surrounding the stone is a sterling-set halo of glittering petite mixed rose cut and table cut diamonds. Encompassing the center stone and halo of diamonds is a black enameled setting with six segments of sterling set mixed rose and table cut diamonds radiating outward from the banded agate. On the reverse side, you will find a glass compartment containing a lock of braided blonde hair as well as an inscription which reads "E.E. Putteney, March 18th 1856". Situated on the back of the pendant is a simple bar pin with locking clasp, and a simple gold bail which is accented by three diamond chips on the frontside. A strong Victorian piece, this gorgeous locket/pendant would make a special addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The piece hangs 1 1/4" inch long (including the bail) and approximately 1 1/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or any of the stones. The banded agate stone and rose cut diamonds are intact and securely set. The bail at the top is securely attached. The removable frame on the back remains intact, and can be easily removed. You may notice areas of minor wear to the enamel, especially on the edge where the enamel meets the gold setting, however this is hardly noticeable when worn and should be expected for a piece of this age and caliber.
