A very unique and wonderful ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This piece is made of vibrant 14k yellow gold and features a lovely and intricate design. At the center is an oval-shaped seal which has a scrolled design with a banner etched with the initials "I.K.W". The centerpiece is hinged and opens to reveal a space for a small photo or memento, such as a lock of hair. The disguised compartment feature of the ring is not immediately evident due to its seamless design, making it a subtle and secretive keepsake piece! The shoulders also feature scrolling floral etching that continues down to a lotus motif that accents the tapering shank. The inside of the band, right behind the centerpiece, is etched with 'Josiah to his Grandmother" A very special Victorian piece, it looks simply wonderful when worn and is a must for any collector!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 7 but it could be re-sized as needed. The centerpiece measures a little less than 3/8" tall and slightly more than 1/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is great. There is some normal surface wear to the ring which is not unusual for a Victorian era piece. The hinged locket opens easily and stays securely closed and the original locket and glass are intact. The back of the ring has some wear due to age however this is not noticeable when the ring is worn.
