A rare and stunning portrait pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This 14kt yellow gold pin features the portrait of a beautiful woman in profile, encircled by a pearl and sapphire encrusted crescent moon border. The image depicts a Roman style portrait of a young woman wearing an etched gold tunic and headdress, both of which are set with small rose cut diamonds in sterling silver mountings. The hand-painted details on her face are exquisite, including rosy cheeks, blue eyes, and a calm gaze. The portrait rests on a deep red enameled surface that features intricately etched trees and roman pillars. A crescent moon set with alternating blue sapphires and pearls encircles the portrait, exhibiting an incredible sparkling array and create a lovely mixed stones appeal. A secure pin clasp, which is stamped "14k" is attached to the back and stamped on the edge of the pin frame is an anchor maker's mark. A fabulous and unusual Victorian piece, this pin would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pin measures approximately 1 1/4" in diameter and is about 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and silver setting. All of the diamonds, sapphires, and pearls are intact and securely set. The enamel is extremely well-preserved, and is free of any major chips, fading, or scratches. The pin clasp is secure and in good working order.
