An absolutely gorgeous gold and enamel locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful piece is made of 14kt yellow gold and has a vividly stunning portrait displayed on its face. The portrait is painted, with a layer of clear enamel placed on top of it. The portrait is of a woman adorned with a beaded headdress, as well as diamond earrings and a beaded turquoise necklace. The crown of the headdress is gold and holds three Rose Cut diamonds and the 2 gold earrings hold sparkling Rose Cut diamonds as well. The portrait is painted with vivid hues of red, yellow, green, and blue and the painting is surrounded by a textured etched design, which borders the entire oval shaped piece. Black enamel tracery creates a lovely scrolled design within the border and the back of the locket is smooth gold with an etched scroll and floral design in its center. The piece hangs from a complimentary, fluted bail and the locket opens to reveal two places for a favorite photograph. It's a beautiful and unusual Victorian piece, which would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2" long, is slightly less than 1 1/8" wide, and is 1/4" thick. The inside of the bail measures 1/2" long and slightly more than 1/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or etched design. The painted portrait is in excellent condition and all of the diamonds are intact. It closes easily and securely.
