Gold-in-quartz was formed while the earth was still in its molten state. During the cooling and solidification process, veins of gold became trapped with the crystals of quartz in the mine. This created a very dramatic contrast between the white quartz and the yellow of the gold. Jewelry made from gold quartz became quite a fashion statement of the 1880's. During the Gold Rush era in the American West, most of the gold quartz was mined in California around the San Francisco area.

A wonderful gold-in-quartz stick pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14k gold, this special piece is an incredible example of the California Gold Rush era and what gold-in-quartz jewelry represents. This stunning stick pin features a detailed scaled claw grasping a raw gold-in-quartz nugget that showcases the natural beauty of the Gold Rush. The attached stick pin is coiled to add an interesting edge to the gold wire. A safety chain can be added to this piece on request. A wonderful accent piece, it would make a unique addition to any antique collection!

Measurements: The pin measures 3 1/4" long. just over 3/8" wide, and 1/2" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The gold-in-quartz nugget is intact and securely set. The pin is free of deformations or bends.
