Swiss enameled pieces were commonly produced to be sold as souvenirs for Victorian travelers. A very fine type of enameling, this technique used very intricate detail and often portrayed scenic Swiss Alps villages with streams, mountains and wonderful homes and churches. These serene images were produced by first covering a piece of metal in a neutral enameled color. A wonderfully detailed picture was then painted on the enameled base and re-fired to set the image. A clear glaze was then applied to the image to preserve it. The pieces were often set in a hollow frame making them very light and comfortable to wear.
A wonderful Swiss enamel bracelet from the Victorian (ca 1880s)era! Crafted in bright 18kt yellow gold, the piece is comprised of bow-shaped oval links that connect to form a gorgeous flexible chain. An incredible black and white Swiss enamel pattern details the links that blend seamlessly with bold gold outlines. Hanging from the enameled links is a beautiful enameled urn. The enamel work is accented with draped floral sprays throughout the body of the urn bringing it to life with vibrant shades of pink, yellow, blue, and green. At the sides are 2 smooth curved handles that connect the hinged closure. The top of the urn opens and holds what looks like old cotton hair. This bracelet is a magnificent piece that could be worn day or night, making it a stunning addition to any collection!
Measurements: The entire length of the bracelet measures approximately 4 5/8" long. The center circumference measures approximately 2". The urn measures approximately 1 1/2".
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to any of the links or to the clasp, which fastens securely and is in good working condition. There is some light wear to some of the enamel, however, it is not noticeable when worn, and does not detract from the overall beauty of the piece.
