A unique necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Originally an antique pin, this lovely piece has since been converted into a pendant necklace for modern day wear. Crafted in yellow gold fill, the pendant consists of a gorgeous padlock motif resting on a decorative rounded bar. The rectangular-shaped lock features a cutout keyhole at the center, and while fine etched details decorate the border. Resting on either end of the bar is a circular cap adorned with a deep red garnet at the center. The faceted garnets are bezel set, and are encircled with gorgeous Etruscan wirework and beaded accents. A delicate skeleton key charm dangles freely from the base of the pendant, adding a wonderful element of movement to the design! Attached to either side of the pendant is a fine gold-filled chain, which fastens with a spring ring clasp in the back. The clasp is stamped "1/20 14K GF" next to a maker's mark. When worn, the necklace hangs just above the collar bone, where the pendant is featured prominently. A charming conversion piece, it would make a unique everyday accessory!
Measurements: The necklace measures 16" in total length. The pendant measures approximately 2 1/8" wide from end to end. The rectangular padlock at the center is 1/2" tall, 3/8" wide, and 1/4" thick. The dangling key charm hangs 1 1/8" long (including the chain), and measures 3/4" tall, 3/8" wide at the handle, and 1/16" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold-filled setting. The garnets are both intact and securely set. The chain and key charm are securely attached, and the spring ring clasp is in good working condition.
