Victorian Rolled Gold and Vauxhall Glass Fly Pin

This beautiful insect pin is a wonderful example of antique Vauxhall glass jewelry from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The 3-dimensional brooch depicts a large fly, which includes deep red Vauxhall glass wings in a traditional rolled glass setting. The pointed wings are lightly faceted along the edges, and display the reflective "mirror-like" quality that is unique to Vauxhall glass. The stunning wings are complemented by the bug's detailed thorax, two legs, antennae, and a small head. Hidden on the underside of the piece is a simple bar pin, perfect for fastening to a favorite garment. The bag of the bug's thorax is marked with an illegible maker's mark, and the pin is stamped "ROLLED GOLD". This unusual piece is perfect for the antique collector or insect jewelry lover!
Measurements: The pin measures 1" long, 1 1/4" wide (including the pin bar), and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no major damage to the rolled gold setting or to the Vauxhall glass. There is a small chip at the bottom of the fly's right wing, but it certainly does not draw away from the overall beauty and appeal of the piece. The bar pin remains secure and in good working condition.
