A lovely compass pendant/charm from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this piece resembles a ship wheel. The center of the wheel features a bezel-set compass mechanism, which features a blue-metallic orienting arrow. It is evident that black enameling once depicted the cardinal and ordinal directions, but the enameling has worn away. The compass is surrounded by a twisting-wirework border, and the exterior of the wheel features 8 sterling silver three-dimensional balls. The top of the piece features a complimentary bail, which would allow the piece to easily attach to a charm bracelet or sterling chain. A unique piece, this pendant/charm would make a fantastic gift for any traveler!
Measurements: The fob pendant hangs approximately 1 3/4" long (including the bail) and has a width of 1 1/16".
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant/charm is good. There is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting, and the compass is intact and in working order. The complimentary bail is securely attached and in working order. The enamel-detailing, which once listed the cardinal and ordinal directions, is worn and is no longer visible.
