A signet ring can be represented with an intaglio, which is created by carving below the surface of a stone, or by a simple smooth seal. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.
An incredible signet ring from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this ring features an oval-shaped centerpiece, which features an intricate intaglio. The center of the intaglio features a shield-motif, which is decorated with small stars and the scales of justice. The intaglio also features a knight's helmet, flags, and other small motifs. The oval-shaped centerpiece features a dainty carved border, and the remainder of the band is smooth and simple. The inside of the shank features a maker's mark, which reads: "LGB & CO." and a "STERLING" purity mark. A bold piece, this ring would make a dashing addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements:The ring is a size 7.5, but could easily be resized. The band has a width of 3.2mm, and the centerpiece has a height of 3/4" and a width of 1/2".
Condition:The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver ring.
