Now a banned material, Antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectable. These earrings, in particular, are simply wonderful and from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Each begins with a horizontal bar that is ornately carved and flares out on each end. A 14kt yellow gold earring wire attaches to the link, hanging from a ring which is riveted through the center of the bar. Dangling from the bottom of the flared bar link is a large tortoise shell ball that has a cone-shaped topper. The tortoise shell is fairly dark in color but also has wonderful hues of caramels and ambers. These stunning earrings are simply beautiful and would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The earrings hang approximately 1 7/8" long, are 5/8" at the widest point and have a depth of 5/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Unfortunately, there are a few very minor chips in one of the horizontal tortoise bars. This damage is hardly noticeable when the earrings are worn. Besides this, there is no other damage to the tortoise or earring wires.
