Vintage Mexican Taxco Sterling Tortoise Shell "Feet" Clip Earrings

A very fun and funky pair of vintage Mexican earrings from the 1960s! Each of these artistic Taxco-made earrings is hand crafted in sterling silver, forming the shape of a wide foot. A group of tortoise shell plaques have been carefully hand cut and inlaid into the surface of each earring, accentuating the separation between the toes, and highlighting the placement of the foot's arch and heel. The tortoise shell plaques display a variety of deep brown and caramel colors, which contrast beautifully with the sleek sterling background. Now a banned material, vintage and antique tortoise shell jewelry has become quite rare and collectable! On the back of each earring is a hinged clip, allowing the earrings to be worn on pierced or unpierced ears. However, if desired, the hinged clip backs could be removed and converted to posts. Both earrings are stamped on the back with a hallmark that reads: "925 STERLING TAXCO." When worn, these unusual earrings make quite a dramatic statement accessory, and would be a unique addition to any vintage jewelry collection!
Measurements: The earrings measure approximate 1 1/4" tall, 7/8" wide across the toes, 5/8" wide across the heels, and 1/16" thick. Each individual earring weighs approximately 6.8 grams (13.5 grams total).
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or inlaid tortoise shell plaques. The earring clips are secure and in good working condition.
