A wonderful bug pin from the Georgian (ca1830) era! This petite silver brooch forms the 3-dimensional design of a charming beetle. Both the head and body are represented by hand-carved rock quartz crystal, which rests above a closed foil-backed setting. The colorful foil backing shows through to the surface, displaying varying shades of soft, rosy pink and pale, peachy orange. Two curled antennae sprout from the top of the head, and six curved legs peek out from the sides of the insect's body. A small red garnet at the face is the perfect finishing touch. On the underside of the piece is a secure bar pin with a c-catch clasp, allowing it to fasten to a lapel or favorite garment. This delightful piece is a wonderful example of antique insect-inspired jewelry!

Measurements: The pin measures approximately 3/4" long, 1/2" wide, and 1/4" thick.

Condition: The pin is in excellent antique. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting. The pin clasp is secure and in good working condition. The rock quartz crystal and garnet pieces are intact, and free of chips or scratches. There is some light discoloration to the foil backing due to age, but it is minor, and does not detract in any way from the beauty of the design. The silver has a natural patina that gives the setting a darkened antique appearance, which is a normal characteristic of antique jewelry.
