Shakudo is the use of mixed metal alloys and was originally used in Japanese armor and swords. Artisans would sometimes remove the Shakudo plaques from the armor and incorporate it into jewelry or art. It has become very collectible and quite unusual.

This impressive and substantial ring from the Victorian era (ca1880) is a wonderful example of the Shakudo craft! The ring consists of a large, oval-shaped Shakudo plaque, which rests atop a swirled sterling mounting. The Shakudo plaque depicts a wonderful image of an exotic Japanese dragon that appears to weave throughout the face of the ring. The design features a variety of mixed metal hues, including bronze and 18kt yellow gold details. The shank of the ring is stamped "SILVER" inside. The precise detail that forms the dragon motif is simply incredible, and the unusually large size of the ring makes a fabulous statement when worn!

Measurements: The Shakudo plaque measures 1 1/2" tall, 3/4" wide, and rests 1/2" above the finger when worn. The ring has a finger size 6, but it could easily be resized.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or to the Shakudo plaque, which is intact.
