Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bold, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.
A fantastic and funky Bakelite bracelet set from the Art Deco (ca1930) era! These fashionable bangles have a colorful design, comprised of bright "bowties" resting above a cream-colored background. The colors compliment each other perfectly, including various shades of green, red, yellow, brown, and black. Some of the colors have a marbled or translucent appearance, while others are solid, providing additional variety. The bracelets slip on and off easily, and look fabulous when worn. A fun and eye-catching set, it is perfect for the Bakelite collector, and would make a versatile addition to any vintage jewelry collection!
Measurements: The inside of the bracelets (where a wrist would rest) have a diameter of 2 5/8" across. They would fit nicely on a medium/average sized wrist. The surfaces of the bracelets measures about 3/8" wide for the smaller one and 1" for the larger one.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the Bakelite.
