Art Deco Sterling Silver Saphiret Glass Drop Earring

Saphiret is a form of art glass dating back to the mid 1800s. Originating in Czechoslovakia, it consists of a hybrid of sapphire-colored glass and liquid gold. When combined, the two materials produce an unusual multi-colored appearance. Although the glass appears to be brownish-red in color, it emits a blue flash when caught in the light.

A beautiful pair of drop earrings from the Art Deco (ca1920s) era! These unique earrings are crafted in sterling silver and feature stunning saphiret glass. The translucent glass displays a smoothly polished surface and exhibits a light blueish green hue with reddish brown undertones and an iridescent flash. The quality of the color play is difficult to capture in a photograph, but is quite striking in person. Each earring begins with a cushion cut piece of saphiret glass, which is held within a four prong setting. Hanging from the top component is a an oval cut piece of saphiret glass, also held within a double-clawed four prong setting. These two componenets are connected by a chic and simple sterling silver link, which beautifully contrasts the unique color of the saphiret glass. The earrings are connected to simple posts, which feature friction backs. Measurements: The earrings hang approximately 1 3/4" long and are approximately less than 1/4" at the widest point.
