Finnish born Björn Weckström is a recognized jewelry artist and sculptor who began his unique designs in the early 1960's. He was the forerunner in designing sculpture-like jewelry for Lapponia Jewelry, drawing his inspiration from abstract shapes and the frozen winter landscapes of Finnish Lapland. Weckström's main mission has always been to turn jewelry design into a small-scale art form and raise its profile on a par with that of modern sculpting. In his words: "A piece of jewelry is a miniature sculpture with the human body in the background". Weckström's abstract designs are both unique and eye-catching, making them perfect statement pieces for the fashion-forward woman.
This unusual ring is a fantastic example of Björn Weckström's talent! An innovative and creative design, the sterling silver ring is a Vintage piece from the 1970's. The ring's sculptural design sits high above the finger but wears very comfortably. It has a 3-dimensional look and resembles a square that has been folded inwards on itself. The sterling silver has a subtle texture that gives the metal a semi-matte finish, one of the trademarks of the artist's works. On the inside of the ring are several markings: "925M", "STERLING", "FINLAND", "LAPPONIA" and Björn Weckström's signature hallmark. It's a very funky and fun ring with a bold look and a must-have for any modernist collection!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size 5 but could be re-sized. When worn, the ring sits 1/2" atop the finger and is approximately 3/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the sterling silver.
