Edwardian 14kt/Platinum Blackamoor Cameo + Diamond Ring

A stunning and unusual Blackamoor banded agate cameo ring from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This incredible piece features an oval-shaped Blackamoor cameo surrounded by a sparkling diamond border, which rests on a simple 14kt gold band. A single banded agate stone has been exquisitely hand-carved to form the cameo, with a raised profile carved from the darker layer of the stone, and the light beige layer of stone is smoothly polished into the background. The image depicts the profile of a beautiful young African Queen with wavy hear and a soft gaze, wearing a decorative headpiece and earrings. Her accessories are carved from a lighter band of the agate, highlighting their detail and providing lovely contrast. Surrounding the stone is a sparkling border of old Mine Cut diamonds, which catch the light beautifully with every turn. The prong-set stones are held in a platinum-topped setting, which rests on a yellow gold band, creating a wonderful two-tone appeal! Finishing the design are delicate cutouts on the edges of the shoulders, and a slightly graduated band wraps around the back. A simply fantastic and unique Edwardian ring, it has quite an unusual design, and would delight any antique cameo collector!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 4, but could be easily resized if desired. The centerpiece measures approximately 5/8" tall, 1/2" wide, and rests about 1/4" above the finger when worn. The graduated band measures 1mm wide at the back.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and platinum setting. The agate and diamonds are intact and securely set. Some areas of the cameo display a trace amount of fading along the edges, which may be attributed to the natural layering of the banded agate stone. However, the color variation is not noticeable when worn, and does not detract from the beauty of the piece. There is a slight darkened patina to some of the gold surface, which is normal given its age and adds to its beauty and character.
