The Italian word, “giardinetto,” which translates to “garden,” forms the shape of a vase of flowers or a flower basket, especially suited for brooches but sometimes rings and pendants. The colorful items were created using various gemstones including diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. Popular during the Georgian (ca1714-1837) era, these colorful floral gemstone depictions were known as tokens of love to be exchanged with significant others and friends. A resurgence in popularity occurred during the Art Deco (ca1920) era.

A stunning multi-stone ring from the Georgian (ca1750) era that perfectly showcases the giardinetto design! This lovely piece, which is crafted in 14k yellow gold and sterling silver, forms the shape of a beautiful vase filled with flowers decorated with a colorful array of stones. Resting at the ends of curved wirework stems, each flower is decorated with a single gemstone, including an oval cut sapphire, two baguette cut emeralds, and two rose cut diamonds. The flowers rest in a vase made up of a single large cushion cut ruby, which exhibits a strikingly deep redish-pink color. Each faceted stone has a closed back, rests in a rub-over setting, and catches the light beautifully with every turn. The colored stones rest in gold mountings and the two diamonds are set in sterling silver. The shoulders of the ring are detailed with scrolling floral designs, adding a wonderful eye-catching appeal, and a smoothly polished, tapered bands finishes this incredible Georgian design. A wonderful and unique gemstone ring, this gorgeous piece would make a perfect addition to any collection!

Measurements: This ring is approximately size 6. The centerpiece of this ring measures approximately 1/2" tall, 5/8" wide, and is a little more than 1/8" thick. The band tapers to 1.3mm at the back of the ring

Condition: The ring remains in overall great antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling silver setting. All of the stones are securely set and free of major chips or damage. The wear is commensurate with age and none is highly visible when the piece is worn. There is a natural darkened patina to some parts of the surface, which is normal given the age of the piece and adds to it unique beauty.
