A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more sides, which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which side is displayed prominently!
A stunning spinner fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of 14kt yellow gold, this unusual piece is double-sided with a smooth chalcedony plaque on one side, and a glass-covered mixed metals design on the other. The chalcedony, which is smoothly polished and rectangular in shape, has a lovely, translucent ivory color. The glass-covered design on the reverse side is truly exceptional! It features a gorgeous floral motif comprised of mixed metals in soft hues that include pale green, lavender, light pink, and yellow gold. The flowers and leaves are slightly raised above their yellow gold background, giving depth to the 3-dimensional design. Both sides of the fob are set in a decorative yellow gold base, which spins freely and easily if desired. Bordering each side is a "step-up style" mounting, with a beautifully engraved floral design on the outermost border. The top of the fob features large open bail, perfect for pairing with a complimentary chain. It's an incredibly beautiful spinner fob that looks fabulous when worn, and would make a very special addition to any collection!
Measurement: When laying flat, the fob (including the gold frame) measures approximately 1 3/4" tall, approximately 1 1/4" wide, and has a depth of 3/8" at its thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the chalcedony stone. The spinning swivel moves easily and smoothly, but stays securely in place when desired.
